Two Syrian Youths Killed by Turkish Gendarmerie
“The Turkish Border Guard, the Gendarmerie, killed two Syrian youths today, Friday, November 10, 2023, as they attempted to cross the Turkish border from the Ras al-Ain area in the Al-Hasakah Governorate in northeastern Syria. The victims were Ahmed Al-Antar and Abdullah Al-Khalaf, both from the town of Al-Kasra west of Deir ez-Zor.
This brings the total number of Syrians killed by Turkish Gendarmerie gunfire to more than 560, including more than 20 victims since the beginning of 2023.
Ahmed Al-Antar
Previously, on September 19, 2023, Mustafa Taha Haj Khalil, a young man from the town of Rityan in northern Aleppo countryside, was killed by the Turkish Gendarmerie while attempting to return to Turkey after being forcibly deported, leaving behind his wife, children, and parents without a provider. He had attempted to return to them through smuggling routes but lost his life.
Abdullah Al-Khalaf
Before that, the youth, Aloush Basam Al-Ali Al-Madad, was killed by the Turkish Border Guard’s gunfire near the town of Alok in the Ras al-Ain region of Al-Hasakah countryside while trying to enter Turkey.
The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) condemns these crimes, which amount as crimes against humanity under international human rights law and international criminal law. SHRC calls on Turkish authorities to conduct an urgent investigation, bring the perpetrators to justice, compensate the victims of these crimes and violations, and urges them to use peaceful means in dealing with border infiltration cases.”
