Another Massacre by the Regime and Its Allies in 48 Hours in Idlib Countryside
Today Tuesday (10/24/2023), the Russian warplanes, supporting the Bashar al-Assad regime, committed a massacre , resulting in an initial toll of 7 civilians, including children, as well as many injuries.
The Russian military aircraft targeted the outskirts of the “Ahl Sarqib” camp in the village of Al-Hamama, near the city of Jisr al-Shughour in the western countryside of Idlib. This is the second massacre committed by the re-gime and its Russian supporters within 48 hours. Last Sunday, the regime’s artillery killed 5 children in an artillery shelling on the village of Al-Qarqour in the Hama countryside.
The artillery and air-strikes are spreading death and terror among civilians, leading to new waves of displacement, exacerbating the tragedy of civilians, all while the international community remains completely indifferent to what is happening in Syria, preoccupied with hotter areas.
The Syrian Human Rights Committee condemns these crimes classified as war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against Syrian civilians, who are living in a severe humanitarian crisis. These actions represent a clear violation of the rules of international humanitarian law, particularly United Nations Security Council Resolutions 2139 and 2254, which call for a halt to indiscriminate attacks causing the killing, injury, and displacement of civilians. The international community bears responsibility for the blood of the Syrian people shed by the Assad regime and its allies due to their inaction and failure to stop these crimes and hold the perpetrators accountable.
SHRC urges humanitarian organisations to intensify their aid to tens of thousands of Syrian displaced people who were forced to leave their homes due to this escalation.
