Lebanese authorities hand over new group of Syrian refugees
The Lebanese authorities continue their violation of international conventions by returning Syrians fleeing the war to Assad’s regime army, to be arrested, tortured and imprisoned. They may die under torture or due to medical negligence, the spread of diseases and malnutrition.
Yesterday, a unit of the Lebanese army handed over a new group of Syrians to a military security checkpoint in Wadi Khaled, Akkar governorate, which is controlled by the Assad regime, after they were arrested inside Lebanese territory following their sneaking across the border.
The United Nations and major human rights organisations have warned that the return to Syria, which is considered unsafe at present, is a crime against humanity.
The Syrian Human Rights Committee calls on the Lebanese authorities to stop returning Syrian refugees, as this exposes their lives to grave, and demands that them to stop interfering in the Syrian internal affairs and participating in the war against the Syrian people, through the participation of Lebanese militias such as Hezbollah and the Syrian Social Nationalist Party militias and other groups that contribute to pushing the Syrians to escape and flee their homes to the closest countries in the Syrian neighbourhood, and to remind them that the refugees from the countryside of Damascus and Homs, especially the town of Al-Qusayr, were primarily because of the Lebanese Hezbollah, which committed massacres of killing and displacement.
The Syrian people would like a dignified and safe return to their country at the first opportunity available to them, and this will only occur with the withdrawal of the Lebanese militias and mercenaries and others from the Syrian land, which have heavily participated in displacement and killing.
