Journalist Ibrahim Awwad

An appeal to release the journalist Ibrahim Awwad
The Jordanian authorities arrested the Syrian journalist Ibrahim Awwad and placed him under house arrest in the fifth village of Azraq camp, and there is talk of an intention to deport him to Syria.
Ibrahim Awwad is an opponent journalist of the Syrian regime from the town of Al-Muzayrib in Daraa governorate. He was born in 1989. He left Syria in 2014 and settled in Jordan a year and a half later. All his activities were directed to the revolutionary movement in Daraa governorate. It is expected that if deported to Syria, he will be arrested by the Assad regime and his life and safety will be at risk. He will be subjected to severe torture and enforced disappearance, and he may die under torture, like most of the opposition media professionals who were arrested by the authorities of the Bashar al-Assad regime.
It is worth noting that Syria under Assad’s rule is classified as one of the countries most violating the rights of media professionals by specialised human rights organisations and the international community.
Therefore, the Syrian Human Rights Committee appeals to the Jordanian authorities to release the journalist Ibrahim Awwad or to allow him to leave Jordan voluntarily to the destination he wants.
