Al-Hol camp for refugees and internally displaced people in the Syrian province of Al-Hasakah is witnessing horrors while the international community insists to ignore them. Since the beginning of this year, i.e. three weeks ago, the largest number of assassinations occurred since the camp was established in April 2016, 14 civilians were assassinated without knowing the perpetrators and their motives despite the alleged security tightening by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units responsible for managing the camp and its security.
With frequent investigations carried out about the perpetrators and their motives and how weapons were smuggled to the camp, all those who were assassinated were civilians, including 5 women, and none of the killings was adopted by anyone. However, according to preliminary investigations, it is clear that the Kurdish People’s Protection Units’ were involved as they are the only party capable of entering and leaving the camp without being stopped by anyone.
Also investigations showed that American-made pistols, with silencers, were introduced by smugglers supported by officials in the Protection Units, as some promoters of these weapons were arrested,
It is noteworthy that some parties spread information that victims who were killed in the camp are agents linked with foreign powers, while it is clear that they are just civilians and among them are employees of humanitarian organisations, all of whom come from Iraq and Syria.
While the SDF accuses ISIS of being behind the assassinations, it was definitely the one who entered the camp with weapons and silencers. The assassinations are not the work of ISIS, which usually adopts its operations without shame or fear, and all the camp residents know that.
It is clear that the most prominent Beneficiary from these assassinations is SDF, which is trying to convince the world that it is the victim, and at the same time the most prominent fighter of terrorism. So it justifies the arbitrary arrests of civilians and ISIS members inside the camp, and asks the international community to support it under the pretext that they control the most dangerous camp in the world, especially with Joe Biden taking power in America.
The Autonomous Administration had agreed with the SDF, on the 5th of last October, to empty Al-Hol camp of the displaced Syrians and to keep only foreigners.
Most of the people in the camp are women and children who came to Al-Hol camp seeking protection and humanitarian assistance. According to UNICEF, 94% of the camp residents are women and children, while children only make up 66% of its residents.
Al-Hol camp for refugees and internally displaced people is located in the east of Al-Hasakah province, 60 kilometres from the Turkish border, and includes 11,000 women and children of ISIS’s members who were killed or disappeared during the campaign led by the United States of America with European countries in addition to the Kurdish organisations in Syria. In addition to the Syrian and Iraqi refugees and displaced persons who fled the violence and the areas of fighting, where the number of camp residents reaches 65 thousand people distributed over 13 thousand tents, most of them are children and women, including 40 thousand children.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which control security in the camp, are responsible for ensuring the safety of its residents, as well as the safety of humanitarian workers in it who seek to assist refugees, internally displaced persons, and detainees in the camp.
