Arrest and kidnapping in October 2020

The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) documented in October 2020 that the Syrian regime forces arrested 11 people, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested 25 people, and the opposition factions arrested 6 people. SHRC also documented the killing of 4 detainees under torture in the regime’s prisons.

SHRC documented the regime forces’ release of 9 detainees in October 2020.

First: arrest

  1. The Syrian Regime

On 3/10/2020, the regime forces arrested three civilians, from the city of Daraa, including a first assistant officer who defected from the army, when they passed a checkpoints near the village of “Mankat Al-Hatab” in the northern suburb of Daraa governorate, and took them to an undisclosed  destination .

On October 16, 2020, the regime forces arrested Mansour Hosni Al-Bureijan, from his workplace in the town of Al-Ghariya Al-Sharqiya in the eastern suburbs of Daraa governorate. Al-Bureijan had previously conducted a security regularisation of his situation with the regime.

On October 18, 2020, members of the Air Force Intelligence arrested a woman in the eastern garage in the Daraa area of ​​Al-Mahatta in Daraa city, and took her to the Air Security Branch in the city.

On October 24, 2020, the regime forces arrested Rami Yassin Al-Rifai, from the village of “Umm Walad” in the eastern suburbs of Daraa governorate, in the Nahr Aisha neighbourhood, south of Damascus, and took him to an undisclosed destination. Al-Rifai had previously conducted a security regularisation of his situation with the regime

On 10/27/2020, the regime forces arrested Abdullah Ismail Al-Saadi from the village of Al-Qunya in the northern suburbs of Daraa governorate, and took him to an undisclosed  destination. Al-Saadi had previously conducted a security regularisation of his situation with the regime.

On October 27, 2020, the regime forces carried out a raid and arrest campaign in the city of Al-Sabkha in the suburbs of Al-Raqqa governorate, and three people were arrested and taken to an undisclosed destination.

On October 29, 2020, the regime forces arrested Adel Abdullah Al-Asimi in the city of Damascus and took him to an undisclosed  destination.

  1. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)

On 10/1/2020, the Syrian Democratic Forces arrested Fasih Abdul Nasser Al-Fasih, from the village of Khuniz in the northern suburbs of Raqqa governorate. They arrested him after raiding his home, and took him to an undisclosed  destination.

On October 3, 2020, the Syrian Democratic Forces arrested the two brothers, Abd al-Salam and Taha Ahmad al-Khalaf, who are from the small village of al-Haswiya in the town of Tal Hamis in the northeastern suburb of al-Hasakah governorate, after they raided their home in the village, and took them to an undisclosed  destination.

On October 12, 2020, the Syrian Democratic Forces arrested Harith Azouz Al-Saleh and Bashar Al-Abadish, two residents of Al-Hawayj village in the eastern suburbs of Deir ez-Zor governorate, after they raided their homes in the village and took them to an undisclosed  destination.

On 20/10/2020, the Syrian Democratic Forces carried out a raid and arrest campaign in the village of Briha, of Al-Basira city in the eastern suburbs of Deir ez-Zor governorate, and 4 civilians from Albukmal in the eastern suburbs of Deir ez-Zor governorate were arrested and taken to an undisclosed  destination.

On October 23, 2020, the Syrian Democratic Forces carried out a raid and arrest campaign in the town of Al-Baghouz in the eastern suburbs of Deir ez-Zor governorate, and 5 civilians were arrested, accused of shooting at one of the weddings in the town, and took them to an undisclosed  destination.

On October 23, 2020, the Syrian Democratic Forces arrested Khamis Ismail Al-Aloush and Saleh Muhammad Saadoun, from the village of Abu Wal in the eastern suburbs of Al-Raqqa governorate, after they raided their two homes, and took them to an undisclosed  destination.

On October 23, 2020, the Syrian Democratic Forces arrested Othman Dahid Al-Manoun, from the village of Mu`ayzila in the eastern suburbs of Deir ez-Zor governorate. They arrested him after raiding his home, and took him to an undisclosed  destination.

On October 23, 2020, the Syrian Democratic Forces carried out a raid and arrest campaign in the city of Al-Shuhail in the eastern suburbs of Deir ez-Zor governorate, and 7 civilians, including a child, were arrested and taken to an undisclosed  destination.

  1. Armed factions

On October 2, 2020, the National Army forces arrested Sabri Basky in the town of Jenderes, of Afrin city in the northern suburbs of Aleppo governorate, and took him to an undisclosed  destination.

On October 3, 2020, Tahrir Al-Sham arrested the media activist Muhammad Na`asan Al-Dabal, at the Dahr checkpoint in the Darkoush suburbs, and took him to an undisclosed  destination.

On 10/4/2020, the Public Prosecution of the Salvation government of Tahrir Al-Sham summoned Saleh Haj Youssef, a media activist and photographer for Orient News Channel, to the Public Prosecution building in the city of Idlib against the background of his criticism of an employee in the civil department of the Salvation Government Facebook account, and took him to an undisclosed  destination.

On October 2, 2020, Tahrir Al-Sham members arrested Muhammad Fayez al-Sheikh, head of the relief campaigns department at the Molham Volunteering Team in Idlib governorate, when he visited the  “Spoils – Ghana’em- Committee” office in Idlib, and took him to an undisclosed  destination.

On October 24, 2020, the Public Prosecution of the Salvation government of Tahrir Al-Sham arrested the two brothers, the journalist Fuad Basbous, and the media activist, Muqadam Basbous, after they were summoned to the Public Prosecution building in the city of Idlib against the background of Fouad’s criticism of the Salvation government and Tahrir Al-Sham, and took them to an undisclosed  destination .

Second: Execution and death under torture

  1. The Regime forces

On 11/10/2020, the family of the detainee at the regime, Shadi Muhammad Omarain, learned of his death under torture. He is a Palestinian-Syrian, from the city of Douma in Eastern Ghouta, east of Rif Dimashq governorate. He was arrested by the regime forces in 2016.

On October 15, 2020, the family of the detainee of the regime, Basil Al-Jizawi, learned of his death under torture. He is a conscript who defected from the regime forces, from the town of Jaleen in the western countryside of Daraa governorate. He was arrested by the regime forces in 2018, however he had previously regularised their security situation.

On 20/10/2020, the family of the detainee of the regime, Hussam al-Sheikh, learned of his death under torture. He is from the village of Aqrabat in the northern suburbs of Idlib governorate. The regime forces arrested him during 2012 in the city of Aleppo.

On October 26, 2020, the family of the detainee, Muhammad al-Khalaf, learned of his death under torture. He is from the village of Al-Taybeh in the southeastern countryside of Daraa governorate. The regime forces arrested him in October 2019, after he was summoned to the Military Security Branch in the city of Daraa.

 

Third: The release

  1. The Syrian Regime

On October 4, 2020, the regime forces released the detainee Abdul Rahman Al-Khalaf Al-Abaid Al-Kharfan, who is from the town of Misrab in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor governorate, being arrested for about eight years.

On 7/10/2020, the regime forces released the detainee Ahmed Haitham Al-Saad, who is from the town of Busra al-Sham in the suburbs of Daraa governorate, after an arrest that lasted about two years.

On October 15, 2020, the regime forces released the detainee Ihssan Nasser Al-Zoubi, from Tafas town in the Daraa governorate suburbs, being arrested for two months in the Military Security detachment.

On October 16, 2020, the regime forces released the detainee Kazem Muhammad Al-Zoubi, who is from the town of Adwan in the suburbs of Daraa governorate, being detained for a period of two and a half years in Adra prison.

On October 16, 2020, the regime forces released the detainee Firas Ghalib Mahamid, from the town of Umm Al-Mayadin in the Daraa governorate, after an arrest that lasted two and a half years.

On October 18, 2020, the regime forces released the detainee Hassan Jaber Al-Haraki, who was from the western town of Al-Malihah in the suburbs of Daraa governorate, after a two-year detention in Sednaya prison.

On October 19, 2020, the regime forces released the detainee Alaa Muhammad Farhan Al-Balkhi, who is from the town of Umm Walad in the Daraa governorate, after a six-month arrest.

On October 26, 2020, the regime forces released Anas Ibrahim al-Sheikh, from the village of Talmanes in the Idlib governorate, after a four-year detention.

On October 28, 2020, the regime forces released Baraa Shehadeh al-Jamous, who is from the village of Dael in the suburbs of Daraa governorate, after a six-month arrest in Adra central prison.
