Arrest, kidnapping & Release in September

In its report on the arrest in September 2020, the Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) documented that the Syrian regime forces arrested 46 people, the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested 16 people, the National Army arrested 5 people, and the Liberation of Al-Sham arrested one person.

SHRC also documented the killing of three people under torture during arrest by the regime’s security forces and two people under torture by SDF.

SHRC also documented the regime forces’ release of 15 people, and SDF’s release of one person.

First: Arrest

  1. The Syrian Regime

On 9/1/2020, the Syrian regime forces arrested Fadi Abd al-Hadi al-Absi, from his town Tseel town in Daraa governorate.

On 2/9/2020, the Syrian regime forces arrested Bashar Haitham Al Maani, a resident of Tafas city in the western countryside of Daraa governorate, as he passed by a checkpoints in Damascus, and was taken to an unidentified destination.

On 6/9/2020, the Syrian regime forces arrested Fadi Qasim Kayouf, from the Immigration and Passports Branch of Damascus, he is from the town of Kanaker in the suburbs Rif Dimashq governorate.

On 9/12/2020, the Syrian regime forces carried out a raids and arrests campaign in the village of Al-Shuraida in the town of Al-Sabkha in the eastern suburbs of Al-Raqqa governorate, five civilians were arrested and taken to one of its detention centres in the city of Maadan in the eastern suburbs of Al-Raqqa governorate.

On 9/12/2020, the Syrian regime forces carried out a raids and arrests campaign in the village of Al-Tabni in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, 10 civilians were arrested and taken to an unidentified destination.

On 9/14/2020, the Syrian regime forces carried out a raids and arrests campaign in the town of Sheikh Maskin in Daraa governorate suburbs, 20 civilians were arrested and taken to an unidentified destination.

On 9/19/2020, the Syrian regime forces arrested the lawyer, Abd al-Rahim al-Samman, from the city of Hama, because of his criticism of the living conditions in the city on his personal Facebook page, and took him to the Criminal Security branch in the city.

On 20/9/2020, members of the air security forces of the Syrian regime forces carried out a campaign of arrests at one of its checkpoints near the bridge of the town of Taybeh, west of the Rif Dimashq governorate, three women and a child, from the village of Kanaker in governorate, were arrested, and they were taken to unidentified destination.

On 20/9/2020, the Syrian regime forces arrested Qais Nur al-Din Naim, a 22-year-old student at the Second College of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Damascus, from the city of As-Suwayda, when he passed a checkpoint at the Conference Palace (Qasr al-Mu’tamarat) in Damascus. He was taken to the Political Security Division in the city.

On 23/9/2020, state security forces arrested Ahmed Salah Al-Qastlawi, who was from the village of Kanaker, southwest of Rif Dimashq Governorate, in the suburb of Jaramana, southeast of the Rif Dimashq Governorate, and was taken to unidentified destination.

2- The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)

On 7/9/2020, the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested the two brothers Bassam and Hassan Sallum Al-Ismail, who are from the village of Al-Haddadiya in the city of Al-Shaddadi in the southern suburbs of Al-Hasakah governorate, after SDF raided their home and took them to an unidentified destination.

On 9/8/2020, the Syrian Democratic Forces arrested Zahir Al-Hamid, head of the diwan in the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council, who is from the village of Al-Sa`wa in the town of Al-Kasra in the western suburbs of Deir ez-Zor governorate, after raiding his home in the village, and taking him to one of its detention centres In the town of Kasra.

On 9/8/2020, the Syrian Democratic Forces arrested the two brothers Tariq and Siddiq Muhammad al-Khalaf, who are from the town of Al-Baghouz in the eastern suburbs of Deir ez-Zor governorate, after they raided their home, and took them to an unidentified destination.

On 9/8/2020, the Syrian Democratic Forces arrested six young men in the town of Mansoura in the suburbs of Al-Raqqa governorate, with the aim of compulsory recruitment.

On 9/9/2020, the SDF arrested “Salem Al Khalaf,” a member of the Legislative Council in the Autonomous Administration and the head of the local council of Al-Baghouz town, with two of his brothers, and the council’s work was suspended.

On 9/14/2020, the Syrian Democratic Forces arrested Hamid Abboud, from the village of Fak Al-Shuwaikh in the city of Al-Shaddadi in the southern countryside of Al-Hasakah Governorate, after raiding his home in the village, and driving to an unidentified destination.

On 9/27/2020, the Syrian Democratic Forces arrested Jamil Suleiman Al-Haji, a resident of the village of Kahli in the city of Al-Malikiyah in the north-eastern countryside of Al-Hasakah governorate, after they raided his home in the village, and took him to an unidentified destination.

On 9/27/2020, the Syrian Democratic Forces arrested Ayman Al-Harhair and Laith Al-Ghadhib, from the village of Al-Sabha in the eastern suburbs of Deir ez-Zor governorate, with the support of a helicopter of the International Coalition Forces, after they raided their homes in the village of Al-Sabha, and took them to an unidentified destination.

3- The National Army & the Liberation of Al-Sham

On 5/9/2020, the Liberation of Al-Sham arrested the journalist Kenana Al-Hindawi while covering the situation of the displaced Syrians in the Kafrlossin camp on the Syrian-Turkish border, and took him to an unidentified destination.
