The Syrian refugee in Lebanon Mohamad Abdul-Jawad was killed today (26/4/2018) on the hands of a Lebanese solider when his school minibus stopped to alight a nursery child in front of his home. As soon as the solider identify his identity as a Syrian, he started with another civilian to beat him with sticks until he fainted. It was found that this resulted in bleeding in his brain and fractures in his skull and consequently he died.
Mohamad Abdul Jawad who comes from the city of al-Qusair in the province of Homs, was obliged in 2013 to leave his home when the militia of the Lebanese Hezbollah attacked al-Qusair, forced its inhabitants out and deprived them from return later. He is the breadwinner of 8 children and his wife, and has 4 brothers who were killed by Hezbollah in al-Qusair in 2013.
The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) views with the utmost danger to the deteriorating treatment of the Syrian refugees in Lebanon, to the rising despised racism against them, to the lenient attitude of the Lebanese authorities towards the crimes committed against them and to the racist references by some Lebanese officials who encourage such crimes.
SHRC demands an immediate investigation in this crime and punish those who are involved and to stop directing verbal or moral insults to the Syrian refugees.
Actually, SHRC considers the Lebanese authorities fell short in the right treatment, and some parts are accomplice in the ill-treatment, and demands that all measures should be taken to rectify this treatment.
