The Syrian regime’s’ forces and Russian warplanes carried out horrific massacres in the towns of Eastern Ghouta, in Rif Dimashq. Regime forces bombed the towns of Douma, Harasta, Misraba and Ain Tarma with surface-to-surface missile launchers and Thermobaric bombs.
Russian warplanes supported them in air by dropping missiles and causing great destruction to the centre of Douma, injuries and deaths. The civil defence in Misraba documented the death of at least 30 civilians, including children, due to an air raid that targeted residential areas in the city.
The victims identified at the time of writing the report are as follows: Somaia Anas Shihab (child, 11 years old), Noor Mahmood Mahjoob (child, 12 years old), son of Mohamed Al-Basha (child), Mohamed Abu Wahdah, Omar Abdul-Moeen Al-Khawli, Omar Mohamed Abdul-Raheem, Abdul-Rahman Mohamed Mahjoob, Isaam Mohamed Al-Khawli, Adnan Jamal Al-Khawli, Khalid Al-Ali, Ahmed Ibrahim Shahadah and Ibrahim Balalah.
Additionally, over ten people were killed in Douma due to dual bombing by the regime and the Russian air force.
Furthermore, over 100 people were wounded in the bombed towns of Eastern Ghouta, amidst a gruelling siege as hospitals and health centres are destroyed and the wounded are not permitted to be transferred to hospitals in the capital Damascus.
The actions of the Syrian Regime’s forces and the Russian warplanes amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. SHRC calls upon the international community to present those involved in these crimes to competent courts to receive their punishment.
