On 18/09/2017- the day on which it was agreed that he was to be released- the Syrian regime apparatus delivered the dead body of citizen Musab al-Suweid to his family.
Musab al-Suweid (Homs, 1966) was the son of a prominent member of opposition, Sheikh Mahmoud Suweid, who was kidnapped by the Syrian apparatus in 1980 from the Bab al-Dreib mosque whilst he was praying. He disappeared thereafter and was never heard of again.
Musab was previously detained in 1979 when he was a young student that hadn’t yet reached 15 years of age, remaining forgotten in prison for ten years.
SHRC holds the regime of Bashar al-Asad and its repressive apparatus responsible for the arrest and lethal torture of citizens and calls for an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding Musab al-Suweid’s death. SHRC also calls upon the international community to put an end to the continuous shedding of blood taking place under the Asad regime in Syria, which has bypassed all laws, conventions and humanitarian norms and values.
