War planes believed to be Russian targeted an aid convoy in the town of Urum al-Kubra (rural Aleppo) on Monday evening, killing 12 volunteers of the Syrian Red Crescent and burning 20 lorries which held humanitarian aid .
Among the victims was Omar Barakat, director of the Syrian Red Crescent of western rural Aleppo.
The Syrian Red Crescent has announced that it will stop its services for three days in mourning over the volunteers that were killed in Urum al-Kubra.
The Red Crescent had previously announced that its convoy, which held aid provided by the United Nations, had set off towards areas in western rural Aleppo which lie under the control of the armed opposition. Pictures of the convoy were published prior to its setting off.
