The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) documented the perpetration of 62 massacres in Syria during August 2016.
Syrian regime forces perpetrated 34 of these massacres, whilst Russian forces implemented 19 massacres. Batallions of the armed opposition were responsible for six massacres, ISIS were responsible for two, and the Turkish air force responsible for one massacre.
The massacres took place over seven provinces, of which Aleppo witnessed the highest number- 33- as it has in every month of this year. Idlib witnessed 15 massacres, and rural Damascus saw five, whilst four took place in Deir Azzour and three in Homs, as well as one in each of Al-Hassakah and Al-Raqqah.
