Security Apparatus Arrest Human Rights Activist at Syrian-Lebanese Border

On Friday morning, the Syrian security apparatus arrested the activist Jadee’ Nawfal Ali at the Jadida-Yaboos crossing on the Syrian-Lebanon border, whilst he was on his way to Beirut.

Nawfal is 65 years old and the Executive-Director of the Democracy and Civil Rights Centre in Syria. He was arrested in 1992 and was sentenced by the Supreme Security Court at the time to five years in prison, which he spent in Sednaya military prison. He was arrested once more on 31/10/2014 upon his return from Beirut to Damascus, and released days after.
