SHRC documented 63 massacres in the month of August 2015, 58 of which were perpetrated by the Syrian regime, four of which were committed by ISIS, and one in which a bomb, thought to have been launched by an armed opposition group, fell on Damascus and caused a massacre.
The targeting of markets has been a primary form of the massacres committed this month, with nine massacres which took place in August being that of targeted market places. This puts the month of August just behind the month of May, in which 11 markets were targeted.
Rural Damascus witnessed the highest number of massacres this month, with 23 massacres taking places across its various towns and cities, followed by Idlib in which 15 massacres took place and then Aleppo, which witnessed 14 massacres
