The death toll in Syria on Sunday 23/08/2015 reached 66 deaths including 13 children, 14 women and two killed under torture.
In the capital Damascus and its suburbs, 42 civilians were killed, the majority in airstrikes and missile shelling, where government forces committed a massacre in Humuriya, in which 13 civilians fell victims. A massacre was also committed in Saqba, in shelling on a market, where eight were civilians were killed. A further five died in Kafr Batna, four in Arbeen, four in Douma, and one in Jasreen and Hazza. The total numbers of child victims were ten in shelling and nine women. In addition, six were killed in clashes with government forces.
Aleppo witnessed the killings of 14 civilians; seven in shelling on Tal Sab’een and al-Maltafta, two in clashes with government forces, two in clashes with ISIS, one in ISIS toxic mortar shelling on the city of Mari’, one under torture in a government prison and one shot by Turkish forces while trying to enter Turkish grounds.
In Daraa, three civilians perished, two in clashes with government forces and one in shelling.
Furthermore, two died in a mine explosion planted by Kurdish forces in Al-Hassaka. An additional two civilians perished in Deir Azzour, one as a result of the lack of medicine due to the siege imposed by ISIS on al-Jurra neighbourhood (under government control), and the other under torture in government prisons.
The killings of two civilians were documented in clashes with government forces in Homs and the other in Hama. The killing of a civilian was also documented in Ar-Raqqah, shot by Kurdish forces.
