ISIS have released a video in which a group of 25 people, described as being from the Syrian regime army, are executed in the Roman amphitheatre in Palmyra. The execution was committed by 25 children, all dressed in ISIS dress, and referred to in the video as “juniors of the Khilafa”.
Hundreds of people attended the execution, with ISIS soldiers scattered between them in their military dress. However, the audience did not chant or make any noise to indicate their engagement with the event.
The video also showed scenes in which those executed were taken out of their cells in Tadmur (Palmyra) prison and placed in Quad cars which transferred them to the amphitheatre.
At the end of the video, new scenes from Palmyra prison were shown followed by the scenes of the blowing up of the prison, an event of which ISIS had previously released images.
The date of the recording is unknown, however it is known that ISIS had published images of their destroying of the prison on 30/5/2015, and they had previously captured the city on 20/5/2015, meaning that the recording could have taken place anytime between 20-30/5/2015. It is unknown as to why the video was only released recently.
This is not the first time in which ISIS uses children to carry out executions, although it is the first time in which the amphitheatre is used for this kind of act. It is also the first time in which the video specifically talks about the Syrian regime, whereas previously, only one victim was mentioned to be an agent for the Syrian regime.
