Activist Rayan Rayan was released by the Hreitan Courthouse on Wednesday evening, after he was detained for a day due to raising the independence flag and his opposition to the Nusra Front.

The activist was severely beaten, and experienced his deadliest torture session only an hour prior to his release.

Rayan, who is director of Public Relations at the Council of Aleppo Rebels, was kidnapped in Bustan al-Qasr by masked men thought to be from the Nusra front. He was then transferred to the Courthouse which is controlled by the Front.

He was released following the intervention of a military battalion named “Stand Firm as you have been Commanded”.
