Daily Report on Violations of Human Rights: 16/12/2013

One hundred and thirty-nine civilians were killed in Syria on Monday 16/12/2013, among them 14 women and 21 children.

Aleppo witnessed the most deaths, with over 56 from Aleppo being killed, among them 14 that perished in shelling on al-Indharaat district, as well as 15 that were killed in al-Ansari as a result of shelling on the district, and seven from al-Shi’aar.

Thirty-four were killed in Damascus, among them 11 from Douma in rural Damascus, five of whom were killed as a result of shelling and five in clashes.

And among those killed was a teacher from al-Haidariya (Aleppo) that perished in shelling from war planes close to the Tayiba School in the district, a man in his fifties from Saif al-Dawla (Aleppo) that died due to the extreme cold and lack of heating, a man from Jub al-Ali (Aleppo) that died due to shelling on Tareeq al-Bab, and four from Aleppo that were pulled out of al-Quweiq River with signs of being executed through shots to the head. A Palestinian man and woman from al-Yarmouk Camp died due to lack of nutrition as a result of the siege imposed by the regime on the area, a defected soldier from Jisreen (rural Damascus) that died in clashes in the Eastern Ghouta, a husband and wife and their two children from Talbisah (Homs) who were executed and burnt by regime forces in al-Nabak (rural Damascus), a child from Jub al-Khasara in Hama died from the extreme cold as well as a child from Masakin Hanano (Aleppo) that was killed by a regime sniper in Aleppo two days ago, and a Kuwaiti man was killed in clashes in al-Naqarin in Aleppo.

Five were killed under torture: the first from Jayrood (rural Damascus), the second was a man in his thirties from Douma that was killed on 5-4-2013 in regime prisons after he was arrested on 15-11-2012, the third was from Daraa al-Balad, the fourth was from al-Salmiah in Hama that died under torture in Hama Military Airport, and the fifth was a man in his twenties from Ma’ardas (Hama) that died under torture in the Air Intelligence branch in Damascus.

Aleppo: 56 including 15 children and a woman
Damascus: 34 including 2 children, 10 women, and 2 that died under torture
Homs: 14 including 2 children and a woman
Daraa: 13 including a child, a woman, a foetus, and 1 that died under torture
Hama: 7 including a child, and 2 that died under torture
Idlib: 8
Deir Azzour: 4
Al-Quneitra: 2 women
Other Nationalities: 1

Total: 139 killed
