Daily Report on Human Rights Violations in Syria: 28/10/2013

Sixty-five civilians were killed in Syria on 28/10/2013, among them six women and seven children.

The largest number of those killed was from Damascus and its suburbs, in which 14 were killed, among them four under torture and two killed by sniper fire.

In Homs, 13 were killed, among them eight that died in the shelling and clashes which took place in Maheen, rural Homs.
In Hama, eight were killed, among them three from the village of al-Madeeq (rural Hama) that died as a result of shelling.

As for Daraa, seven were killed among them two under torture

And in Deir Azzour, four were killed, three among them due to shelling in the village of Jadid ‘Akaydaat (rural Deir Azzour).

And among those who were killed, two from al-Quseir (Homs) were killed in an ambush as they were travelling to Sadad and Maheen, and a third from al-Quseir was strangled after he was arrested at al-Huseiniyah Crossing after he crossed the “death opening”. A Palestinian child (24 hours) from the inhabitants of the Yarmouk Camp died due to the lack of an incubator as a result of the siege, a woman from Daraya (rural Damascus) with Liver disease died due to lack of medication as a result of the siege, a man in his fifties fro Aleppo died after suffering a stroke due to his fear when wanting to cross the Karraj Crossing, and a man from Maayir (Aleppo) died in clashes with the PKK in the village of Jalbal in the Northern Aleppo Countryside. In Daraa al-Balad a civilian died as he was repairing the power cut which took place due to shelling, and a civilian in Jordan from Tafs (Daraa) died due to injuries he sustained as he attempted defusing a landmine.

Eight were killed under torture: the first from Quseir in Homs who fell on 23-10-2013 but news was only given of his death today, the second- in his twenties- was from Damascus and died under torture at Branch 215 after he was arrested on 16-12-2012, the third from Harasta (rural Damascus) died under torture at the al-Khateeb Branch in Damascus after he was imprisoned for four months, the fourth a colonel from Kafr Hoor (rural Damascus), the fifth a defected policeman from Tafs (Daraa), the sixth from Ghasm (Daraa) died under torture at the Military Intelligence Branch, the seventh a student from Jawbas (Idlib) who died under torture in regime prisons two months ago, and the eighth from Jaba (al-Quneitra) who died under torture at al-Mantaqa Branch after he was imprisoned three months.

SHRC also documented the death of a media activist from al-Bab (Aleppo) as he was covering the clashes at Nabl and al-Zahra, a teacher from Qal’at al-Mudeeq in Hama due to shelling on the town, a carpenter from Jafeed Ukaidaat in Deir Azzour due to shelling on the town, and a Palestinian from the inhabitants of the Daraa Camp who died in Jordan as a result of injuries sustained due to shelling.

Two were killed by sniper fire: the first from Douma (rural Damascus) who was killed in al-Wafideen Camp in rural Damascus by sniper fire, and the second a Palestinian lady from the inhabitants of al-Darbashiya (al-Quneitra) who was killed by a sniper shot in the village of al-Maliha in rural Damascus.

Damascus and its suburbs: 14 including a woman, 3 children and 4 under torture
Homs: 13 including a woman and one who died under torture
Aleppo: 10 including a media activist and a child
Hama: 8 including 2 women
Daraa: 7 including 2 that died under torture
Idlib: 5 including a child and one who died under torture
Deir Azzour: 4 including 1 woman and 2 children (female)
Al-Hasaka: 2
Al-Quneitra: 2 including a woman
