Daily Report on Violations of Human Rights in Syria: 07/10/2013

One Hundred civilians were killed in Syria on Monday 7/10/2013, including eight women and seven children.

The largest number of deaths documented was in Damascus and its suburbs, in which 35 were killed, among them 20 that died due to an air raid on the town of Hamura in rural Damascus, and four that died in Douma after a land mine exploded in the area.

In Al-Hasaka, 25 were killed after the central market was targeted and bombed.

In Idlib, 14 were killed, 11 of whom died in battles in rural Idlib and Wadi al-Dayf. Also among those killed was a couple- from Bosra al-Shaam, Daraa- and their two children. They were executed, and their bodies found on the Salkhad Route.

Three from Douma, rural Damascus, died due to the land mines that have been placed in the city. Three from al-Dahadil, Damascus, were also summarily executed close to the Hisham Bin Malik School; and a Paramedic and media activist from Hamouria (rural Damascus) both perished in Hamouria as a result of air raids. In Rankous (rural Damascus), a man died after sustaining injuries from a car explosion which took place in the Khalid Ibn al-Waleed mosque in the Rankous Valley, and in Jisr al-Shaghoor (Idlib), a civilian was found killed by gunfire. In al-Houla, Homs, a civilian was killed as he attempted to resuscitate another civilian who was killed, as well as another civilian from Houla who died in Kameen (rural Damascus). In the al-Arba’een neighbourhood, Hama, a civilian died after being shot at by regime security. He died as he made his way to Turkey.

SHRC also documented the death of a defected Major in Homs who was killed during shelling on the city, as well as a defected lieutenant from al-Kanda (Idlib) who died in Turkey after sustaining injuries from clashes in Jabal Turkman. Three Palestinians were also killed: the first was killed by gunfire from the Regime Security which was fired on a protest which took place in the Yarmouk Camp, the second and third were killed by shelling which took place in Daraya yesterday. And in al-Huwaiqa, Deir Azzour, a civilian was killed by sniper fire.

Two were killed under torture; the first from Jisreen, rural Damascus, and the second- in his twenties- from al-Shamaas in Homs died under torture in the Military Security Branch.

Damascus and its suburbs: 35 including 4 women and a media activist
Al-Hasaka: 15
Idlib: 14 including a defected lieutenant and a child
Aleppo: 13 including a child
Daraa: 7 including a woman and 2 children
Deir Azzour: 6 including 2 women and a child
Homs: 6 including a defected Major
Hama: 4 including a child
Total: 100 killed
