Abdul Wadud Yousof

Mr. Abdul Wadud Yousof (Barghouth) was born in the year 1938 in Homs, where he received his basic education. Having the Baccalaureate certificate, he moved to Damascus to Study History at the Faculty of Letters in Damascus University. At the same time he joined the Shari’a faculty. Later he acquired BA in History form Damascus, and then a Master degree from Cairo University. He finished his PH.D. thesis in history; however, because of his preoccupations in writing and cultural and social activities, he was unable to submit it, until he was arrested in March 1980. 

Abdul Wadud married in 1965, and had two daughters and three sons. 

Mr. Yousof worked as a researcher in the Damascus Department of Museums and Archeology, then as an inspector in the Central Corporation of Superintendence and Inspection. In 1971, he resigned to devote himself to writing. He is a member in the Union of Arab Writers. 

Abdul Wadud’s characteristics are not usually found combined in individuals. He is a man of thought and culture, a courageous critic, simple and prudent. 

During his work in the Department of Museum and Archaeology, Abdul Wadud carried out several historical studies, wrote articles, studied other manuscripts, booklets, and other handwritten materials. He made a number of specialized historical lectures in Damascus and other cultural centers throughout Syrian provinces. 

Abdul Wadud Yousof wrote the following series: 
1-Hikayaat Harithah (Harithah’s narrations): This series contain about ten volumes of youth stories, each issue is made up of a main illustrated story and other pictorial stories that dealt with ethical, social and cultural issues. The official authorities banned it because of its widespread popularity. 
2- Hikayaat an-el-Qura’an (Stories about the Qura’an): This series contains 20 volumes, which are essential stories aimed at youths. It aims to explain the Qura’an in a simple language using expressive pictures. 
3- Hikayaat an-essalat (Stories about Prayers): A youth series of 20 volumes in an attractive narrative style. 
4- Leaders of the West Say:

7- Structure of Islam: principles and pillars: A theological study.
