Urgent Call in relation to Abdul Rahman Abazeed
SHRC

A closely connected source has informed the Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) that the United Arab Emirates Authorities have arrested the Syrian Citizen Abdul Rahman Toomatullah Abazeed on 19/5/2008. Abdul Rahman Abazeed has been residing legally in the UAE and working as a teacher since 1976. His services to the Ministry of Education were terminated in 2003, although he remained in the UAE according to a certificate issued by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) regional office of the Gulf Cooperative Council which explained it is still looking for an alternative safe placement because he was included in Syria by the law 49/1980 which sentences to death mere membership or assistance to the Muslim Brotherhood.
Professor Abdul Rahman Abazeed is 65 years old, originally from the southern region of Horan.
SHRC urges the UAE Authorities to release and end all deportation measurements being taken against Mr. Abdul Rahman Abazeed, also calling upon the UNHCR to provide him with alternative placement, in which he and his family can live safely together.
