The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) has been informed by a knowledgeable source in al-Ma’arah city that the Syrian citizen Omar Mohammed al-Doghaim (26 years) from the nearby village of Kafr Rooma in the province of Edlib was arrested three months ago (August 2006) because he criticised the practises of the Syrian intelligence during an incident took place in the area. The source added that an informer reported him and consequently he was arrested.
SHRC condemns the conduct of the Syrian Authorities in repressing the individuals because of exercising their rights to express their opinions, and condemns the despotic arrests practised on the widest scale outside the rule of the law.
SHRC requests the immediate release of Mr. Omar Mohammed al-Doghaim and the terminations of all forms of arrests and oppression practised against individuals for the mere reason of exercising their rights to express their viewpoints about national current issues.
