SHRC
Referring to SHRC’s invitation for a joint protest in front of the Syrian Embassy in London on Friday 29/2/2008, the protest was a true success. More than fifty activists and supporters and participants chanted for public liberties in Syria and the release of all detainees including the detainees of Damascus declaration. They repudiated the State of Emergency laws and law 49/1980 that condemns membership of Muslim Brotherhood to death. They also showed support and sympathy to Hama Massacre 1982 and the Massacre against the Kurds in Qamishly 2004 and condemned the perpetrators. The protest was very successful when all participants whether the Syrian supporters men, women and children and Amnesty International activists joined in a high level chant for the freedom of the Syrian people and the freedom of detainees in the Syrian prisons.
The intelligence branch in the Syrian Embassy, instead of responding positively to the fair calls, installed cameras in the embassy’s windows to video the protestors and send their photos to the Syrian intelligence apparatuses to complete their repressive measurements. No time passed until we had news that the embassy’s intelligence elements were investigating first time protestors.
The Syrian Human Rights Committee thanks all participants and all those who contributed to the success of the protest. SHRC requests that our people should participate in human rights activities and to stand up to repression and aggression practised continuously by the Syrian authorities against democratic and human rights activists. SHRC appeals to all supporters of human rights in Syria to participate in protest on Wednesday 12/3/2008. SHRC will publish shortly some photos and videos of the protest on Face Book and You tube Syrian Human Rights Committee 2/3/2008 |
