Muhammad Adib Tatari,15, schoolboy

Amnesty International said today that, the Syrian authorities had released Randa Ayyubi's husband, Mamduh Tatari, and their son, Muhammad Adib Tatari, about two weeks after Urgent Action was issued by Amnesty International in 24/02/00.

However, Randa Ayyubi herself is believed to remain in incommunicado detention, where she is at risk of torture or other ill-treatment.

The three were arrested on 17 October 1999, apparently after Randa Ayyubi made an anti-government remark in the street.

SHRC welcomes the recent release of Mamduh Tatari and  his son Muhammad Adib, and demands Syrian authorities to release Randa Ayyubi, and to stop detaining people because of expressing their opinions.
