An SHRC media spokesman expressed deep concern over the news of the deteriorating health condition of the former MP Mr. Al-Humsi. The spokesman told that this deterioration developed as a natural consequence to the physical and psychological circumstances of which Mr. Al-Humsi has suffered in jail. The spokesman added that cardiac disease of which the said detainee suffers requires special care physically and psychologically. This care is barely lacked in Adra prison.
The spokesman said that the Syrian authorities are still insisting on detaining Mr. Al-Humsi and his colleagues who were arrested in the Summer and the Autumn of 2001, and later stood before an unfair trial. The spokesman affirmed that all selective make-up worn by the Syrian authorities come to nothing and that they must do more ever before to carry out a comprehensive reform process especially on the human rights level. This should be introduced by the release of all political detainees and prisoners of conscience.
The spokesman concluded his statement by demanding the Syrian authorities to immediately release Mr. Mohamad Ma’mun Al-Humsi. He made those authorities responsible for any health implications as a result of the continued detention of the said prisoner.
