The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) has received an urgent letter from an informed and closely related source reporting that the maths teacher at Dayr Az Zawr’s secondary schools, Mohammad Ameen al-Shawa, was killed under torture in the Syrian Intelligence prisons. His body was handed to his family on 10/1/2009.
SHRC had previously issued a press release on 25/10/2008 calling for the fates of 13 detainees from Dayr Az Zawr to be revealed. These detainees were all arrested in August 2008, and Mr. al-Shawa was among them.
SHRC offers its deepest condolences the family of the deceased, and strongly and unequivocally condemns the death of Mohammad Ameen al-Shawa under torture, and condemns the use of torture that leads to death and arbitrary arrest, all of which do not follow the rules of the law.
SHRC also calls for full invistigations of what happened to the deceased to be disclosed, and those that were involved in his death both executors and commandors to be punished. SHRC also calls for the fates of those detained with Mr. al-Shawa to be revealed and requests their immediate release.
