SHRC has learnt that Mr. Faisal Rukabi was detained in the northern town of Aleppo in November 2001 during his last visit to Syria. No information were released or made available by the Syrian authorities regarding his fate or where he is being held. The fore-mentioned Syrian citizen works abroad and lives with his family.

SHRC denounces strongly this oppressive detention method practiced by the Syrian security apparatus against Syrian citizens, especially the ones who reside abroad. Furthermore, SHRC calls on the Syrian authorities to reveal the circumstances surrounding his arrest and either; put Mr. Faisal Rukabi on a fair trial or release him immediately.
