SHRC
The Syrian Human Rights Committee in partnership with Amnesty International and Syrian national groups is organising a picketing in front of the Syrian Embassy in London on Friday 29th February 2008, from 2.00 P.M. to 4.00 P.M.
The aim of the picketing is to protest against the large scaled random and despotic arrests perpetrated and conducted recently by the Syrian authorities against the activists of expression and creed, notably leading members of Damascus Declaration. It aims also to condemn the unfair trials and the unjust sentences issued on detainees in the Syrian prisons as well as the torture and the inhuman and degrading treatment practised routinely in Syrian prisons.
The picketing that coincides with the 26th annual anniversary of Hama Massacre will remember in solidarity the victims whose numbers exceeded 25000 innocent civilian killed by the Syrian Regime forces. The picketting will condemn the massacre of Qamishli perpetrated and carried out by the Syrian intelligence forces against the Kurds in 2004. At the same time, we will request the repeal of the state of emergency laws after 45 years of imposing them on 8th March 1963. The Syrian Human Rights Committee addresses all Syrian brothers, sisters and strivers to participate in this joint picketing. SHRC also appeals to all human rights supporters and those sympathetic with Syrian people to take part in this activity in favour of democracy and the rule of civilian law away from the state of emergency laws and exceptional courts.
