Syria among the Severest of countries on Media Freedom Restrictions
SHRC

"Reporters without Borders" has published its annual report for 2007 in which it listed the countries of the world according to the freedom the press is given in each. According to the report, Syria was ranked no. 154 out of 169, as the Syrian regime continues to practise suppression (up to 66%) on the freedom of the press and media this year.
The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) takes this occasion to request the Syrian regime to put an end to its interference in all kinds of media issues, to secure its freedom and impartiality and to allow the media to fulfil its role of conveying accurate information, allow for freedom of opinion and that of the opposite opinion, the publishing of magazines, the creation of satellite channels and independent internet sites, and to put an end to political interference in the media for the regime's benefit.
