Urgent Call to Reveal the Fate of University Student Reem Mohammed Nakhla and Release her
A source from the family of the university student Reem Mohammed Nakhla (28 years) has reported that on 2/4/2009 she suddenly disappeared in Damascus. After much searching and questioning it was made known to them that she was detained in one of the security branches, with an accusation akin to swearing or degrading.
The source also reported that Reem suffers from “dual poles conscience disturbance” which results bouts of hysteria of anger and screaming, which happens to her in more than one location, including the university, making her speak and mention things she may not be conscious of.
In addition, the source also said that they visited all security branches in Damascus, taking the relevant medicines that Reem takes, as well as medical reports which explains her case with them. The source also wrote letters of appeal and complaint, however all this was of no avail and result.
The source has confirmed that Reem Mohammed Nakhla studies in the Faculty of Letters, department of Arabic Literature in Damascus, and is not involved in any political, human rights or any other activity. All she wishes is to live a normal life and cope with her mental illness, which often lets her down and which she cannot always control.
The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) expresses its sympathy towards the tragic situation of the citizen Reem Mohammed Nakhla, and urgently calls upon the President Bashar Al-Asad and to whomever it concerns to reveal the fate of Reem Mohammed, release her immediately and assist her in the treatment of the difficult disease she suffers from.
