The State Security intelligence authorities in Syria arrested two civil and peaceful activists this evening (17/12/2007). The journalist Ali al-Abdullah (57 years)was arrested from his house in Qatana in rural Damascus province and the General practitioner Walid al-Bunni (43 years) from the street near his clinic in al-Tal town in rural Damascus province. Both Ali al-Abdullah and Walid al-Bunni are activists in the Damascus declaration for national change, and previous conscience detainees.

The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) unequivocally condemns this despotic and random arrest and demands the immediate release of Mr. Ali al-Abdullah and Dr. Walid al-Bunni as well as their colleagues Dr. Fida’a al-Horani, Dr. Ahmad To’ma, Mr. Jabr al-Shoufi and Mr. Akram al-Bunni.
