SHRC A unit of the Syrian Military Intelligence forces raided a number of houses on Monday evening (20/11/2006) in al-Qamishly city in the north eastern region and arrested seven citizens because of their religious peaceful tendency. Sources said Abdulaziz Rafi'ah, Abdurahman Rafi'ah, Omar Rafi'ah, Abdurahman Yousfan, Abdulaziz Yousfan, Adel Mohelmi and Abdulaziz Mohelmi were arrested. The source described the raids as brutal and claimed that books, computers, CDs and other belongings were confiscated. On the other hand, the Syrian intelligence apparatus arrested in the early morning of Wednesday (15/11/2006) Dr. Mohammed Ali Issa (29 years) who works in the emergency department at al-Razi Hospital in Aleppo. He is also a student of Shari'a at Abu al-Noor campus in Damascus. It was believed that he was arrested on the basis of his religious peaceful outlook. His brother Yousuf Ali Issa was arrested also for the mere reason of making inquiries about the whereabouts of his brother. The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) denounces these despotic arrests and repression perpetrated by the Syrian authorities requesting them to immediately release the abovementioned detainees, to stop all sorts of despotic and random arrests and to terminate all repression based on the religious peaceful outlooks.
