Massacres on same day as UN Human Rights Council Meeting

The number of those killed by the forces of Bashar al-Asad on Monday 17/9/2012 has exceeded 130 civilians, (up till the moment of writing this press release) through many massacres perpetrated in the Yarmouk Palestinian camp in Damascus, in which 8 Palestinian civilians were summarily executed. In addition, 8 civilians in the Hajar al-Aswad district in Damascus were killed by a bomb, as well as 15 civilians in al-Lajaat in the suburbs of Daraa. In Homs and its suburbs, an unknown number were killed due to shelling in the “old city”, which has been under siege for 101 days, in addition to al-Rastan, Talbiseh, and al-Za’faranah. The village of Kafar Uwaid in rural Idlib also witnessed a horrific massacre yesterday when the air planes of the regime bombarded a bakery at which civilians were queuing for their turn to buy bread. Tens of civilians were killed in the attack whilst tens were injured, and 8 nearby buildings collapsed on their inhabitants.

The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC), which is observing the UN Human Rights Council meeting and the presentation of clear, irrefutable, accurate and unprecedented proofs of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the Syrian regime, expresses its surprise at the disassociation of the international community in the suffering of the Syrian people and the lack of immediate action being taken as per the charter of the United Nations, and via its organisations and tools to protect civilians and keep them safe from the deliberate crimes committed against them by the regime of Bashar al-Asad.
