Call for the Immediate Release of Dr Ayham Ghazool

Despite the passing of more than 50 days since his arrest with no accusation provided or court to try him at, the Syrian security is still refusing to release Dr. Ayham Ghazool who was arrested from the Dental College in the University of Damascus on 5/11/2012.

This is not the first time in which the Doctor is arrested. He was also arrested previously on 16/2/2012, and thereafter released on 5/5/2012.

During his time of detention, Dr Ayham Ghazool was subjected to all kinds of torture and physical and mental humiliation. His friends and colleagues fear that this will be repeated once again.

Despite the attempts of many human rights organisations including the Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) to learn of the circumstances of the detention of Dr. Ayham Ghazool, except that the Syrian Security refuses to allow anyone to meet or even speak with the Doctor. The arrest and detention of Dr Ghazool for this period with no reason provided is a clear violation of the most basic principles of the Syrian Constitution and the international conventions. SHRC therefore calls for the immediate release of Dr Ayham Ghazool and all those who have been arrested during the more recent protests.
