SHRC
The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) has requested the immediate release of the Lawyer Haitham al-Maleh (77 years), who was arrested by the Syrian security authorities yesterday 14/10/2009 after summoning him for interrogation.
Lawyer Haitham al-Maleh is one of the few well established scholars and integrators of the Syrian law, an outstanding human rights activists, and a former president of the Human Rights Society in Syria. He was subject to detention for many years in the 1980’s with other colleagues in the Syrian law bar because of his defence of human rights and general liberties in Syria.
The Syrian Human Rights Committee expresses unequivocal solidarity with the Lawyer Haitham al-Maleh, and calls for his immediate release. SHRC also calls for the cease of all forms of arbitrary and despotic arrests, the release of general liberties and to make an end to the ongoing campaign against human rights activists in Syria.
