Tension Dominates Hama
SHRC

The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) has received complaints from citizens in Hama about the harsh and unjustified treatment given to them by the head of the intelligence branch of Hama, Brigadier Mohammed al-Muflih. Many citizens of Hama, including Men, women and the elderly have expressed their anger at the harm they are subjected to on the streets of their city.

The complaints reveal that many emigrants have suffered from the orders issued by the Brigadier, many of whom have been imprisoned for no given reason. This has caused complications for them, such as lateness in issuing leaving permits to the countries they live in, to the extent that some have lost their jobs due to not beginning on time, all due to the action of the Brigadier. Some have told SHRC that the Brigadier sent them to prison with fabricated accusations.

The complaints made by some of the citizens has led them to notice the negative effect the behaviour of the Brigadier is having on the city of Hama, causing apprehension and tension, and harming the national harmony of the city through implementing harsh measures, causing disadvantage to others and complicating their matters for no justifiable reason.

Based on this and the knowledge that the police and security were primarily founded to protect citizens, ease their matters, and implement the law on all, SHRC calls upon the Syrian authorities concerned to make clear the extent to which actions outside of the law are acceptable of the Brigadier Mohammed al-Moflih, and to hold him account for his actions and to remove him from the city of Hama.
