
Body of Mohammed Rasheed al-Ruwaili, Previous President of Union of Arab Writers is Found
Confirmed news from the city of Deir Ezzor, East Syria, has reported that the body of the Syrian writer and novelist Mohammed Rasheed Abdullah al-Ruwaili (1947) was found on the 22/11/2012 in a decomposed state, after having been summarily executed previously. The forces of Bashar al-Asad’s regime kidnapped Mohammed Rasheed al-Ruwaili from his home approximately two months ago and took him to an unknown place. Nothing was known of his whereabouts until his corpse was found.
The deceased was a novelist, writer and a researcher who left a treasure of stories and research, and was previously president of the Union of Arab Writers. At the Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC), we offer our condolences to the family of the deceased, the Syrian people and the Union of Arab Writers, and we call for the criminals to be taken to court for this horrific crime. SHRC also calls for the international criminal court to be used for what is taking place in Syria of horrific crimes and crimes against humanity.
