More arrests in Homs
A trusted source has reported that more civilians have been detained by the intelligence forces last Friday (25/3/2011); their destinations and the charges against them have not been disclosed. Names of the detainees include: Bassam Aldrooby (tradesperson) Noor Aldrooby (pharmacist) Ahmed Alraheeb Adnan Alawad Yaser Al-Ali Omar Rahseed Khaled Shalar Mohammed Kharfan On the other hand, it has been also reported that 30 tradesmen have been detained in the Al-Na’oora and Al-Masqoof markets in the centre of the old city, as they expressed their intentions in participating in a sit-in in solidarity with the citizens of Latakia who have been attacked by the regime’s thugs and who have suffered from a number of deaths and injuries as a result.
The SHRC demands the immediate release of the detainees and demands the Syrian authorities to put an end to the ill-treatment and torture these detainees are suffering from. It also reminds the authorities of its constitutional and international responsibilities towards protecting detainees from undergoing such ill-treatment, and demands an end to these random and arbitrary detentions.
