Following brutal beatings he was subjected to by Syrian Criminal Security elements, the engineer Wadee’ Sha’booq passed away on the 19/7/2010 in Aleppo, North Syria.
The story began as relayed by the Arab Organisation for Human Rights in Syria on 13/7/2010, when the engineer Wadee’ Sha’booq, director of the Computing Institute which is affiliated to the Education department in Aleppo, was attacked by Criminal security elements from the al-Ashrafiyah Branch. Wadee’ Sah’booq received strong blows on his chest which led to a heart attack. Despite the fact that a number of hospitals are located in close proximity to the branch and the pleas of his son, the criminal security did not allow him to be taken to hospital immediately. Wadee’ Sha’booq remained unconscious in a condition of clinical death until he passed away on 19/7/2010.
Wadee’ Sha’booq (Aleppo, 1957) had visited the al-Ashrafiyah criminal security branch with his son A’laa to prove that his detained son- Jamal- who was accused of running away from his compulsory military service, had in fact completed them a year and a half ago. He was subjected to blows on his chest being accused of swearing at the officers, which led to his tragic death.
The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) unequivocally condemns the use of violence, torture and inhumane treatment in the Syrian Prisons, and the belittling of the lives of citizens. SHRC also strongly condemns the attack by the security elements on the deceased Wadee’ Sha’booq, and calls for an end to the use of violence by the security apparatus. SHRC also assigns the involved Security elements the responsibility of the death of the abovementioned citizen, and calls for an investigation into this painful incident in which those implicated are sent to court.
