SHRC 
The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) media spokesman has called upon the Syrian Authorities to respect the freedom of the media and release the Palestinian journalist Helmi Musa. Helmi Musa works for the Lebanese newspaper “Al-Safeer” and was arrested in the Syrian Capital on Sunday 5/7/2009, whilst he was participating in a political Seminar.
The media spokesman also called for the importance of revealing the place of his detention, and the reason for his arrest, as well as his immediate release, and to put an end to the harassment of journalists.
It is also important to note, that the journalist Helmi Musa was a previous detainee in the Israeli Prisons. He moved to Lebanon after his release, is aligned to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and works in the daily “Al-Safeer” newspaper.
Following numerous mediation, the Syrian Authorities released the said journalist on Thursday Evening, 9/7/2009.
