Syrian Authorities Release Some Detainees

The Syrian Human Rights Committee has learnt that, beginning 7 February 2005, the Syrian Authorities have released nearly fifty detainees whose arrests were within the past four years.

 

The reports indicated that the prisoners were being held at the disreputable military prison of Sednaya west of the Syrian capital Damascus.

 

SHRC has further learnt that among those released in this group are:

 

1- Mos'ab Naseef- Aleppo 

2- Basel Kasabji- Aleppo

3- Omar Koraimesh -Aleppo

4- Mazen Bawadiqji- Aleppo

5- Abdul Razaq Haj Ajmad -Aleppo

6- Usama Korayem- Aleppo

7- Monzer Sokheitah-Aleppo

8- Abdul Kader Armanazi-Aleppo

9- Abdul Lateef Isaac-Aleppo

10- Jihad Dalati-Aleppo

11- Mustafa al-Sheikh-Aleppo

12- Hasan Khallo-Aleppo

13- Ahmad al-Idlibi-Aleppo

14- Hamza Bakir-Aleppo

15- Mohammed Haj Sulaiman-Aleppo

16- Khalid Darwish-Aleppo

17- Abdulwahab Da'ass-Aleppo

18-Mustafa al-Zori-Aleppo

The sources stated that the detainment of the aforementioned individuals was based on their affiliation either of Hizb al-Tahreer or because they practiced the Salafi tradition, in addition to other reasons that by no means defy any state laws.

 

On this occasion, SHRC reiterates its demands to the Syrian Authorities, insisting on the release of all political prisoners immediately, and the absolute end of politically-based detentions or arrests resulting from practicing the freedom of expression or the personal orientation and belief.
