SHRC

The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) denounces the detention of the two Syrian Kurdish citizens Hassan Saleh (60 Years) and Marwan Uthman on 15/12/2002 following their recall to meet the minister of the interior.

Reliable sources in the Kurdish Yekiti party told that the two members’ news , who are members of Yekiti political committee, ceased to be following their summon by the police command of Damascus suburban province to meet the minister of the interior, after the peaceful picketing they took part in which was organised by Yekiti party before the Syrian parliament (People’s council) in Damascus on 12/12/02 to demand recognition of the unauthorised Kurdish rights.

Believing in the peaceful expression, SHRC denounces this unjustifiable detention, and demands the concerned Syrian authorities to release immediately Hassan Saleh and Marwan Uthman, and to work to provide democratic environment for the peaceful right of expression.

SHRC requests friends to appeal for the release of the two said detainees and to remind with all other political and conscience prisoners in the Syrian prisons.

Please forward your appeals to the president of the Republic: Dr. Bashar al-Asad, to the minister of the interior: Mej. Geneneral Ali Hammoud, and the minister of Justice: Dr. Nabil al-Khatib. You can obtain their address from our website.
